ABOUT BIRDS
Birds are an extremely diverse group of warm blooded vertebrates characterised by feathers, a hard, toothless beak, a four-chambered heart and a strong yet hollow skeleton. Birds are most known for their ability to fly, which is made possible by the aerodynamics of their feathers and their hollow, lightweight skeleton. However, not all birds can fly, as seen in birds of the Ratite group such as Emu and Cassowary that lack this ability in favour of a larger size and stronger body.

Birds are typically considered to be quite intelligent, especially those of the Corvid and Parrot famillies and as such can develop complex relationships and methods of communication with eachother. For example, Australian Magpies endemic to different regions will have calls that sound noticably different to those found locally.
Below you will find a comprehensive list of all the various bird species I have observed in the wild around Whyalla and the surrounding regions.
